Ich lerne Deutsch

Ja. Ich lerne Deutsch, aber Ich spreche ein wenig Deutsch. At this point I can write in German pretty well, my speaking is progressing as I am using a lot more German with my dad. I still can't hold a conversation though, just words and phrases. I am almost done with unit 2 of level 2 on Rosetta Stone and the difficulty is really picking up. I find that I have to review the material a lot more than I did in the earlier lessons. At this point it seems like writing a whole story in German might have been a stretch considering the amount of time I had to do this project. I am thinking about writing some short stuff like letters or making political cartoons in German and maybe getting involved in the online Rosetta Stone community where I could skype some native speakers of the language and really learn how to speak it. The whole point of this project is to learn the language and use it, so that is what I am going to do.

Level 2

As of yesterday I am finally on level 2 out of 5 of rosetta stone for German. I am making tremendous progress in regards to the language itself but I still haven't thought much about my short story other than the synopsis. It looks like it is going to be a lot harder than I thought to learn enough german in order to write a book. I am going to try and produce as much as I can. Hopefully I can finish at least level 3 by the project due date.

More progress

Reading 1984 and doing physics stuff this week has limited my focus on German. I've found the time to do rosetta stone for about an hour every day and I've made it towards the end of level 1. I'm hoping to begin level 2 in a couple of weeks. I do have ideas for my book, though. I will probably make it a story of a rebellious nazi soldier during WWII that does not agree with the views of the faschist party. Keep in mind that this will be all in German and will probably be more like a short story considering we only have until may to complete this project and I've only learned a little more than the basics of the german language. I'm having a lot of fun doing this so far and I think this project really suits me.

Up and running

I've made it almost halfway through German level 1 on Rosetta Stone. Finally got it working on my laptop about a week ago and I have been working with it daily ever since. Writing in German has become the hardest part for me because all nouns are capitalized and there is a lot of unpredictability with the language just like English. I can now say simple stuff in german like every day words and phrases. I just need to start thinking about what I am going to write for my book and to what extent i should do rosetta stone so that I know enough german to at least do a sizeable short story.

Learning the basics

Trying out my new rosetta stone app in class. So far I've learned that to travel or to drive is fährt in German and i think that's pretty funny because it sounds like fart. German is an awesome language. I've also learned how to say the man/woman runs, which is "Der mann rennt" and "Die Frau rennt". I've also learned different types of foods. Bread is "brot" and rice is "reis". I'm planning to do the 2 month program on rosetta stone so by april or so i can start working on my book or short story. I might even do some political cartoons in German. Auf wierdershen!
